Valladolid and Lanzarote are strengthening ties through gastronomy. The Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, and the Minister of Economic Promotion, Antonia Machín Barrio, representing the President of the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort García, have signed a collaboration agreement today to jointly organize the Canary Islands Regional Tapas Competition.
This protocol establishes a strategic alliance between the two destinations, both members of the Saborea España network, with the aim of promoting joint actions that strengthen the tourist and gastronomic image of both territories. As an immediate result of this agreement, Valladolid Turismo will provide support and guidance for the organization of the Canary Islands competition, following the successful model of the National Pinchos and Tapas Championship, City of Valladolid, one of the most prominent events on Spain’s culinary calendar.
Thanks to this agreement, the winners of the Canary Islands Regional Tapas Competition will gain direct access to the national final held each year in Valladolid. In recognition of the vibrancy and talent of the Canary Islands’ gastronomic sector, up to three representatives from the region may participate in the national final, selected by mutual agreement based on their placement in the regional competition.
Furthermore, the Lanzarote Island Council will be officially recognized as a “Partner Destination” in future editions of the national competition while the agreement remains in effect, enhancing its visibility at one of the leading events for wine and miniature cuisine tourism.
Both parties have agreed to prepare a joint annual Work Plan and a summary report of activities, and to establish a Monitoring Committee to ensure proper implementation of the agreement and the highest standards in its execution.
With this agreement, Valladolid and Lanzarote reaffirm their commitment to gastronomic tourism as a driver of development, innovation, and destination promotion, fully aligned with the values and goals of Saborea España.
