- Description: The Bodega San Juan has a long-standing tradition dating back five generations. The winery pioneered the old Monte Lentiscal Denomination of Origin with its Don Juan Rodriguez Quegles and Viña Mocanal wines. The winery is made up of three large wine-press rooms with two wine presses, one of which is unique in the Canaries: a spindle press brought over from Lyon, France. The winery was founded on 11th June 1912, by Don Juan Rodriguez Quegles, great-grandfather of the current owner. The winery gained prominence at the beginning of the 20th century. The phylloxera plague that devasted the Continent and its wine production made wines from the Canary Islands, which had been spared the plague, highly coveted and appreciated. Even back then, the winery received frequent visits from cruise ship passengers. Nowadays, Cristina Millán (fifth generation and owner) upholds tradition while applying agricultural and wine-production advances. In the near future, she would like to produce red, white, and muscat wine once again, as well as an ecologic Canarian wine. The objective is to make the winery more accessible to tourists and local people, so they can learn about the past and present of wine making in the Canary Islands.
- Main offers:
– Wines: Listán negro, tinta negra mole
- Resident’ tip: The winery has several rustic, yet well-preserved spaces designed for events and presentations, and offers guided tours of the wine-press rooms, the wine museum, vineyards, and winery (tasting included). You could also enjoy a live musical or artistic performance.
