  • Description: Small family run cheesery with more than 100 goats and sheep in order to produce various different types of cheese. The animals are held away from the cheesery in a beautiful natural setting.
  • Main offer: Artisanal Semi-cured (medium matured) cheese, made with raw Majorera goat’s milk.

    – Visitors can learn about the production process of artisanal cheese, livestock farming, the environment, as well as take part in a cheese tasting.

  • Resident’s tip: If you suffer from vertigo, it would be best to avoid the viewpoints along this route: Artenara, for example, is known as the “Balcony of Gran Canaria”.

  • Description: This cheesery is included in the Protected Denomination of Origin Queso de Flor de Guía, Queso de Media Flor de Guía and Queso de Guía. They preserve the ancestral practice of transhumance with their livestock. They still milk by hand and have a natural cave they mature their cheeses. They won numerous awards from 2009-2015, including the 1st Prize at the Cata Insular de Santa Lucía in 2015. They belong to the Protected Denomination of Origin of Flor de Guía and Queso de Guía. They have their own transhumant sheep that can be seen milking and grazing, as well as the production of handmade cheeses.

  • Description: A family owned cheesery passed down from generation to generation that counts on more than forty years of experience and a herd of around one hundred sheep.
  • Main offer:
    – Artisan semi-cured and cured cheeses made with raw sheep’s milk and a mixture of rennets.
    – Visits to the farm, explanation of grazing, livestock management and cheese making. Sample and tasting of the cheeses with homemade bizcocho bread.

  • Description: This cheese factory is run by the third generation of the family. They have cows and goats with which they make cheese. Their animals graze freely in the beautiful and unique natural surroundings of the farm.
    Services offered: Its cheeses are made from three types of milk, goat’s, sheep’s and cow’s milk. They are buttery and oily.
    Visitors can visit the facilities, taste the cheeses, and see the production process, as well as the care and management of the animals.
  • Main offer: Soft, semi-cured and cured cheeses.
    – Sale of cheeses (with appointment) to the public. Their products are also on sale at locations around the island, and in Lanzarote through the help of intermediaries.
    – A tour of the premises, ending with a tasting of cheeses where visitors can learn about the production process, as well as how to take care of and manage the animals.

  • Resident’s tip: Before finishing your route, don’t miss the opportunity to try the famous “suspiros” and “bizcochos” from the town of Moya. You’ll find them in any of the shops in the historic quarter of the municipality.

  • Description:This is a modest family run cheesery that has been handed down from generation to generation. It has a farm with more than 200 goats and sheep. It offers an excellent variety of cheeses with the Protected Denomination of Origin label (Flor de Guía, Media Flor and Queso de Guía). It also produces other cheeses without Protected Denomination of Origin (animal rennet cheese and soft cheese), but of equally high quality. The facilities are rustic in style and easy to reach. They received numerous local awards between 2006 and 2009, including the 1st prize for Queso Flor through the Cabildo de Gran Canaria in 2009, and the Super Gold award at the World Cheese Awards 2017-18. They are members of the PROQUENOR association and the Agrupación de Defensa Sanitaria (ADS).

  • Description: Situated in Artenara’s town centre and excavated inside the mountain, Risco Caído’s Interpretation Centre aims to be the primary location for the transmission of knowledge to the public about this important archaeological site. You can learn about the way of life of its inhabitants throughout the centuries, and most importantly, visit the life-size replica of cave C6 from the archaeological complex, discovering its uses as a temple, sanctuary (almogarén), and calendar. This is the emblem of the submission for the declaration of the Montañas Sagradas of Gran Canaria and is named a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The replica exhibits the interior of the cave and an astronomic marker used by the first settlers of the Island of Gran Canaria, which marked the planting and harvesting seasons and transhumance periods.
