Dénia promotes itself in Slovakia to leverage WizzAir’s new direct route to Alicante

The Spanish coastal city brings its tourism and gastronomy proposition to Bratislava in a working session with tour operators, travel agents and specialised media, backed by the Spanish Embassy and the Spanish Tourism Office in Vienna.

WizzAir’s newly launched route between Bratislava and Alicante-Elche Airport has already prompted concrete promotional action. A Dénia Tourism delegation, led by Mayor and Tourism Councillor Vicent Grimalt and AEHTMA President Amor Lydia López, travelled to the Slovak capital to present the destination to key players in the country’s tourism industry and strengthen its position in this emerging market.

The day, organised in collaboration with the Spanish Tourism Office in Vienna and the Spanish Embassy in Bratislava, also brought together representatives from the Costa Blanca Tourism Board, Turismo Benidorm, and the provincial trade associations AEHTMA and HOSBEC. A working meeting with the Slovak Tour Operators Association focused on assessing the potential of the new air connection and establishing collaboration channels to drive visitor flows from Central Europe to the Marina Alta region.

Gastronomy as a key differentiator

At the afternoon institutional event, hosted by the Spanish Tourism Office in Vienna and the Spanish Embassy, Dénia presented its offer to travel agents and specialist press — highlighting not only its sun and beach appeal, which generates the strongest interest among Slovak travellers, but also its status as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. Local chef José Manuel López brought the city’s culinary identity to life for the Slovak audience through a hands-on, representative showcase.

The initiative is part of Dénia’s international promotion strategy and reflects a straightforward logic: when a new direct air route opens, the window of opportunity is short — and you need to be in the market before other destinations get there first.
